Syracuse seemed to fit that bill.

They were poised to bring back their entire starting line-up, one of their top recruits from last year -- Mookie Jones -- was injured so he will be able to help, plus another top-20 recruiting class. Of course that depended on no one leaving early. With the encouragement of coach Jim Boeheim, point guard Jonny Flynn will be checking his status in the NBA draft -- without hiring an agent. Paul Harris and Eric Devendorf, at first blush, appear to just be leaving.
So Much For Syracuse in 2010 originally appeared on NCAA Basketball Tournament on Thu, 09 Apr 2009 16:05:00 EST . Mayo getting a little something on the side from runners for an agent. And it has been over three years since the allegations against former USC football star Reggie Bush regarding some incompetent wannabe marketing agents fronting a lot of money and a house to Bush and his family.

Neither investigation has gone anywhere with respect to USC. Yet both are still open investigations by the NCAA. So for whatever reason, the NCAA is combining the investigations into one single investigation into USC's athletic department.
NCAA Combines Impotent Investigations Into USC originally appeared on NCAA Basketball Tournament on Thu, 09 Apr 2009 12:06:00 EST . For every winner, there is a loser (take that and your nil-nil ties, soccer!). For every Tiger Woods, there is a Detroit Lion. For every Isiah Thomas as a player, there is an Isiah Thomas as a general manager, league owner, boss and suspected poor Parcheezi player. And for every North Carolina with its win for the program's ring, there is a Wake Forest, which now hasn't made the Final Four since Carolina coach Roy Williams entered puberty. Check out FanHouse's breakdown of the winners and losers of the NCAA tournament, other than those five-time national champion Heels.
Winners and Losers originally appeared on NCAA Basketball Tournament on Thu, 09 Apr 2009 06:45:00 EST . His commitment was only verbal, so there was not even a formality of having to ask Memphis to release him from the LOI.

Sure enough, Cousins made the decision to go to Kentucky. He is likely to be only the first.

Xavier Henry did sign a LOI with Memphis, but has just received his release. He is not ruling out sticking with Memphis since his older brother will be eligible to play for the Tigers in 2009. He is, however, now deciding between Memphis, Kansas and Kentucky.

DeMarcus Cousins Is the First Memphis Recruit to Follow Calipari to Kentucky originally appeared on NCAA Basketball Tournament on Wed, 08 Apr 2009 13:17:00 EST . Most mock drafts have Blair being drafted mid-way in the first round despite being a 6-7 power forward.

Blair has decided that he will not even pretend that there is a chance that he will come back to Pitt. He has retained an attorney to help him, though he has not hired an NBA-certified agent as of yet. The hiring of an attorney, though, means that Blair has surrendered his remaining eligibility. He has a press conference scheduled for later this afternoon to make an official statement.
DeJuan Blair Closes Door on College originally appeared on NCAA Basketball Tournament on Wed, 08 Apr 2009 12:51:00 EST .
No matter how quickly the Spartans tried to play, they were always one step behind the Tar Heels. Even Kalin Lucas couldn't shake free of the Tar Heel defense and the Spartans insistence on running with the Heels made North Carolina's defensive job easier.

Roy Williams has been as maligned as any coach, but when he went up on the ladder twice Monday night, he cut down his second national championship net, matching Dean Smith's mark. Only John Wooden, Adolph Rupp, Bob Knight and Mike Krzyzewski have more.

It isn't the best time for traditional brand names in America, with even the surest things reduced to chilling vulnerability in a volatile, wacky world. He went up twice. The first time, he snipped just a strand. The second time, he severed everything that was left. It was quite apropos.

After all, there isn't anyone in Chapel Hill more deserving of all the success that has come to Tar Heels' basketball in the last few years than their dadgum, corny coach from Asheville, N.C., the '72 graduate who went away for awhile to Kansas before returning to his alma mater six years.
Roy Williams Is Hoops' Newest Dean originally appeared on NCAA Basketball Tournament on Tue, 07 Apr 2009 01:39:00 EST . Yes, there was the superior talent on North Carolina. The Tar Heels shot really effectively in the first half. North Carolina could actually make free throws. The issue for Michigan State, though, was their inability to hold onto the ball.

The Spartans turned the ball over 21 times in the game. The poor ball-handling made it easier for North Carolina to go on runs big runs and stopped Michigan State attempts to come back cold.
Spartans Lose Handle on Everything originally appeared on NCAA Basketball Tournament on Tue, 07 Apr 2009 00:42:00 EST . He's not going to hire an agent, according to the story, but he will go through the draft process. Meeks was an All-American this year, and along with forward Patrick Patterson, was most of Kentucky's offense this past season.

Right now, the mock drafts have him as a second round pick, at best. Still, between Calipari taking over at Kentucky and being a junior, Meeks has every reason to find out what his options are with the NBA. And if not, he still can come back for his senior year with the knowledge of what he needs to improve. He would be a fool not to find out his status.
Jodie Meeks Will Check Out NBA Life originally appeared on NCAA Basketball Tournament on Tue, 07 Apr 2009 00:17:00 EST . Now he can add the Naismith Award to the list.

Really, it never was any question. No player in college has been better this season than Griffin, the likely No. 1 pick in this year's NBA draft. Even when he lost, he was spectacular. In the Sooners' final game of the season against North Carolina in the Elite Eight, Griffin scored 23 points and pulled down 16 rebounds, thoroughly outplaying Tyler Hansbrough in a matchup of player of the year winners.
No Surprise, Blake Griffin Wins Naismith originally appeared on NCAA Basketball Tournament on Mon, 06 Apr 2009 22:35:00 EST . Meanwhile, Michael can't believe he won't be flying anymore.

Magic Johnson and Larry Bird sat together Monday night in Detroit as part of the 30-year anniversary of their national championship game, when Johnson and Michigan State beat Bird and Indiana State 75-64, turning college basketball into a major sport. Shortly after that, they did the same for the NBA.
Guess Who's Still Nostalgic for '79? originally appeared on NCAA Basketball Tournament on Mon, 06 Apr 2009 22:23:00 EST . A (seriously) spry 96 years old, Coach Wooden was kind of enough to take some time out of his Championship Monday to speak with FanHouse. From his upcoming Gatorade commercial (it debuts tonight, you can get a sneak preview of it here), to how he feels about the money and attention that college coaches receive, to who he has pegged to win Monday night's big game, Coach Wooden had plenty to say. Hit the jump to read the full interview.
FanHouse Talks to Coach John Wooden originally appeared on NCAA Basketball Tournament on Mon, 06 Apr 2009 17:20:00 EST .
